Giant Lorenz Bernie â€Å"Ecstasy of Saint Teresa† I chose Ecstasy of Saint Teresa by Bernie because it is an impressive multi-media installation that helps me understand the intense experience of Saint Thresher's visions. Four black marble columns frame the scene of Saint Theresa floating as if on a cloud as a playful angel is about to plunge an arrow repeatedly into her. Her face portrays a feeling of intense pain and pleasure as she accepts the glory and light of her lord. Heavenly light is shining down on them. Through the use of natural light shining down from an unseen mystical source.Brass reflective rods are lined up in a row opening up towards the couple further signifying the beauty and grace of the light. From both sides of the main characters a viewer then notices a seated audience relief carved out of marble. The audience seems to be captivated by the untraditional portrayal of god like visions. The marble is so beautifully carved to render flesh and the texture o f clothing. Ecstasy of Saint Teresa is equally frightening and stunning; reflecting the religion it represents. This piece is a perfect example of Baroque sculpture. A common characteristic ofBaroque art is including the audience into the work. Ecstasy of Saint Teresa does this by way of the theater windows. The relief of witnesses within these windows gives the sense that all of this is happening on a stage, and the audience is thus placed in orchestral seats in front of the stage. This includes the viewers into the work and justifies the drama portrayed theatrically in front of us. The scene portrayed here is an intense one. Seeing the look on Saint Teeter's face shows fear, pain, and pleasure. This is Juxtaposed with the look of calm playfulness on the angels face as he threatens her with the arrow.Natural light bathes both the figures in a holy light that implies a sense of realism to the existence of God. The emotional impression the piece implies is very characteristic of Baro que art. One can imagine the pious traveling great distances to be brought down on their knees by Bering's instillation. Bernie was a master in working with marble. The articulate depiction of different weights of cloth is impressive. Saint Teresa is dressed in a heavy textile that weighs her down in the earthly sense. As far as the government’s functions go, it is the unit of the family that is able to gain the most benefits. I view the family as the most basic and the most unprotected aspect of society. It is the government’s ability to provide regulations, guidelines, and protection that the family is able to continue its development. It might be raised at this point that the individual should be considered the most unprotected unit of society. However, I persist in believing that it is the family. The individual can still become a member of larger societal units. In fact, the individual can even go so far as to become a member of government. It is because of this fact that the collection of individuals called the family is the most in need of the services offered by the government that presides over it. However, there are forms of government wherein it is the family that comprises it. In oligarchies and monarchies, for example, the royal family comprises the governmental unit. It is in these cases that the interaction is reduced to one of family with family, of ruling class family with non-ruling class family, of bourgeois family with lower class family. This can also be likened to the type of interaction described to exist between the family and the society to which it belongs. In other ways, the family is also able to affect the government. Because the family forms the entirety of society and because it is able to mirror the mechanisms of society, it is also able to mirror and spread the mechanisms of government. The family is in charge of the education of the younger generation with regards to the powers of the government, the need to follow the impositions of the government, and also the specific laws and regulations set forth by the constitution. The task of propagating the ethics and morals of a good citizen that obeys the government lie on the shoulders of the members of the family. The concepts of restriction of behavior, meting punishments for unacceptable actions, and of obeying authority figures are also first understood by the child in the confines of the family. (Hegel, 2001) Society on Government and vice versa The government is said to be the regulating institution of society. It represents the majority of the population and provides frameworks as well as maintains peace and order. However, as I have stipulated, I believe that the inherent state in nature is peace and not war. Why then would a government be needed to maintain peace and order between its constituents and even with other governments? The state of war is not inherent in nature. However, it is also very much present in observable society. Why is this so? I believe that war stems from the inability of society to meet the needs of its members. This is in accordance with the propositions of Habermas (1998). Because of the society’s inability to completely meet the needs of its members, there is unrest and turmoil. War and violent conflict arise from these feelings of dissatisfaction. It is only through a strong power of the will that dissatisfaction is allowed to exist in an individual’s consciousness. I believe that the ineffective structuring of society creates feelings of unrest and dissatisfaction. When those with more are given more and those with less are asked for more, society is placed at an imbalance. This imbalance is unnatural. It is not the natural order of things. There is disequilibrium in society and as a result, there are individuals who are abused and unsatisfied. Again, this is also in accordance with the views of Marx and Engel (1978) regarding ruling class and non-ruling class. There is no chance for equilibrium or stability to be attained because as Marx and Engel (1978) stated, the ruling class practices hegemony. They use their ideologies to maintain power over the lower class. It is only with active revolt from the lower class that the structure of society can be changed. Thus war becomes an option to those whose dissatisfaction has become so great that they can no longer live with it. Without the government, these feelings of dissatisfaction would reign across the world. There would, indeed, be numerous states of war across the globe. Peace would be hard to find and individuals would find it impossible to achieve their true personal goals in life. A government is needed in order to regulate the interaction of the ruling class and the non-ruling class. Without the government, society would be in a constant flux of change and revolt. It is the institution of the government that allows society to remain its peace and as such to progress. However, it may well be the case that the government is simply a tool of the ruling class to maintain power, a means to their option of hegemony. This is exactly why even though there are governments in place today, wars still occur. There is still a disequilibrium in the social structure. Also, the government is not representative of the majority. This is a fact stressed by Kant (1983) to be of the utmost importance in considering government models and systems utilized in a given state. There is, therefore, a type of government that will best serve the purposes of society and the individual. Although there are numerous forms of government, not all are adaptive to society and its members. The mode of government is a point of greater consideration than the type of sovereignty afforded. (Kant, 1983) Society, however, plays a greater role in government. It is more than just a place wherein the functions of government can be practiced. In fact, it is my belief that society and government act in much the same way that the President and the House of Congress act in a Republic government. That is that society and government act as checks and balances of each other. Although it is true that there is no clear definition of legal power that society has on a particular government – in the way that government has on society – it is also true that the dominant form of politics in a state are defined by society. Because most governments rely on society’s good will towards it, society is able to check and balance the processes of the government. In modes of government involving votation, society dictates the candidates to be deemed more capable and reliable to place in position. This is done through the ideologies espoused by society. Thus two different political parties can be chosen from but the thrust of the resulting government will be based on the value systems established by society on its members. For modes of government, on the other, hand that do not include an electoral system, society is able to operate as a larger checks and balances system. Because monarchies and oligarchies and other similar forms of government give the ruler the right to decree laws and statutes by himself, society plays a crucial role. Social agreement or social rejection may be the only difference between a ruler’s decree of implementing the death penalty, for example, as a punishment to a severe crime. Thus we see that society plays a large role in defining government actions even in these individualistic or familial forms of governance. On this point, however, the revision and reconsideration of laws in systems with electoral systems and with more formal methods of passing laws is also highly dependent on society’s moral and ethical stand. The three-strike law for example, wherein criminals convicted of a crime three times receive a heavier sentence or a longer imprisonment period, was not revised because the constituents of the State of California did not agree to the provision that only severe crimes would be subject to this law.

Author’s Biography Jose Corazon de Jesus or â€Å"Pepito† was born in Trinity Road District of Sta. Cruz, Manila, on 22 November, 1894. He was the second son of Dr. Vicente de Jesus who was the first director of the Kawanihan ng Kalinisan, and his  mother was a kapampangan namely Mrs. Susana Pangilinan. He had twins, Vicente Jr, the elder and Rosa, the younger. In their family, Jose Corazon de Jesus is closer to his mother because he is sickly. Since childhood, Corazon de Jesus was aware in Tagalog tula, awit, korido and the books that was famous in those days like â€Å"Florante at Laura† and â€Å"San Raymundo†. And because of these literary works, the skills of Jose Corazon de Jesus in poetry began. He was also fond of singing, playing the piano, and various physical games.He attended his first schooling in the town of his father. The childhood of Jose Corazon de Jesus was full of enjoyment. After graduating in the primary level, he was transferred in Liceo de Manila, one of the most popular schools in Manila then, to continue his secondary level. When he graduated, he studied law at Escuela de Derecho. When he finished his degree in 1919 he did not take the bar exam. Instead, he continued his passion in poetry. In October of 1918, Jose Corazon de Jesus elope his girlfriend Asuncion Lakan. Their relationship brought three children; they were Teresa, Jose and Rogelio. Jose Corazon de Jesus is not only a poet and writer but also journalists. Analysis Love is a variety of different feelings, states, and attitudes that ranges from interpersonal affection to pleasure. It can refer to an emotion of a strong attraction and personal attachment. It can also be a virtue representing human kindness, compassion, and affection—†the unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another†. It may also describe compassionate and affectionate actions towards other humans, one’s self or  animals. Ancient Greeks identified four forms of love: kinship or familiarity (in Greek, storge), friendship (philia), sexual and/or romantic desire (eros), and self-emptying or divine love (agape). Modern authors have distinguished further varieties of romantic love. The question, â€Å"What is love?† has been discussed widely by those who are puzzled by this existential phenomenon. Indeed, what is love? Nowadays a lot have their own idea about love. Each has his own convictions and beliefs about love. There is love at first sight, love is sweeter in the second time around, some even describe it as blind, others say that love is in the air and love is you. Love is a word that has a broad meaning. We cannot elucidate it in just simple terms; we can just give the characteristics but not the meaning of it. Only the person that feels that he/she is in love can give the interpretation of it not by the words but by the action. In his encyclical Deus Caritas Est (2005), Pope Benedict XVI writes, â€Å"Today, the term ‘love’ has become one of the most frequently used and misused of words, a word to which we attach quite different meanings.† Love is emotions that cannot be understand by human reason but only by heart. Defining love is very hard for everyone but feeling in love is common to all men. That is why Corazon De Jesus put in his poem â€Å"Ang Pag-ibig, isipin mo, pag inisip, nasa-puso! Pag pinuso, nasa-isip, kaya’t hindi mo makuro.† In our times today, the word love is very common but somehow different in meaning when we refer to the oldest time when our lolo courting our lola. That is why many old persons are complaining about the issue of love in our new era. They say that the true meaning of the love is being destroyed. Corazon De Jesus wrote his poem about Pag-ibig to show his point of view about love in a poetical way. He has the imagery of love in his mind expresses through words. When a man is truly in love with a woman, he will do everything to get her sweet answer. Courting a girl in the older times is very difficult. To have the hand of the girl, a man must know how to get water from the well, get firewood in the forest or in the mountain and giving the girl some fruits or vegetable from his farm. However, this culture is being forgotten by the youth of today. Courting a girl in our times is very basic. It will start  from getting the cellphone number followed by date and then without a year, a boy can get the girl. True love is self-denials love. We cannot say that it is love if it is still in our heart, if we do not express it. A quotation says a bell is not a bell until you ring it; a song is not a song until you sing it, and love in your heart is not love until you give it away. Some of us are just contended that we are in love. We are afraid to share it in our love ones not because we do not love him/her but we are afraid of rejection. We are satisfied of being in love but we are scared to stay in love. Corazon de Jesus mentioned in his poem, â€Å"Ang Pag-ibig kapag duwag ay payapa’t walang agos, Walang talon, walang baha, walang luha, walang lunos!† We are very futuristic. We always think what will happen for tomorrow that is why we are being terrified. We think if the person we love today is still in love with us in the next day. If the lover would deny his need for affection, expressing love would soon become a burden and it would only result to different form of isolation . Man has a natural longing to complete himself by personally relating with other men, for without love, there can be no true interpersonal relations among people.1 There is often little evidence for loving; we have to trust the person we love and without faith we cannot love either God or other people. And without love, life is not worth living. As Corazon de Jesus said in his poem Kayong mga kabataang pag-ibig ang ninanais, Kayong mga paruparong sa ilawan lumiligid, Kapag kayo’y umiibig na, hahanapin ang panganib, At pakpak ninyo’y masusunog sa pag-ibig! Conclusion As a seminarian, being in loved is very important. As what Fr. Lloyd Cinco said to us in our retreat, â€Å"You cannot be a priest if you do not know how to love.† Love is a duty. Only when it is a duty to love, only then is love eternally secured against every change and happily secure against despair.  There are three things that destroy love. First are the changes in our inclinations and feelings. Second are the changes in the person we love. The last is the unhappiness, pain and suffering that can lead to despair. That is the cause why people are afraid to stay in love, because of the tribulations and hardships in the relationship. They are just contented in falling in love. People are also terrified of their obligations because love seeks security. Therefore swear an oath, swear fidelity to each other. However this oath offers nothing but a false security because the two persons who swear to love each other forever, swears by something that is lower than love itself. The two swear by their love to each other forever, instead of swearing love to each other by eternity. Therefore, both of them swear by something that could change over time. If what one feels changes, then there would be nothing that would bind their love. The only way to find true security if one is to make an oath is to swear by the duty that shall love. Spontaneous love is still subject to change because it is not consciously grounded upon eternal but depends entirely on one’s emotion and feeling. It could change into its opposite, into hate or it can become the sickness of jealousy.

In addition, he shows us the contrast in his mood and explains to us his inability to be merry due to his physical deformities saying, But I, that am not shaped for sportive tricks/ Nor made to court an amorous looking glass/ Have no delight to pass away the time (I.i.14,15,25).Thus, to relieve the boredom and to serve his own ambition, he determines to prove a villain, subtle, false and treacherous. This shows us his low self-esteem and dissatisfaction with himself which is evident from his tone of bitterness, anger and disgust as he feels that he is very ugly and unloved such that even dogs bark at him. It also reveals to us his evil and jealous nature as he decides to pass away his time by plotting to overthrow his brother from the throne and cause unrest and unhappiness. Hence, the first soliloquy helps us understand the context of the play better, introduces us to Richards true, evil nature as well as keeps us in anticipation as we are also let in on how he plans to attain the throne, with the phrase plots have I laid To set my brother Clarence and the king/ In deadly hate (I.i.32-35), which also acts as a tool for foreshadowing. The following soliloquies in Act 1 further characterizes Richard and shows us that he would do anything, even murder, to fulfil his goal and get his way. His sarcasm and lack of love towards his own brother Clarence as well as his cruel and violent nature is seen here as he shows no hesitance in getting his brother killed, Simple, plain Clarence, I do love thee so/That I will shortly send thy soul to heaven (I.i.119-120). His wicked, and depraved nature is also brought out through his soliloquy in Act 1 Scene 2 as he ridicules Lady Anne for having fallen for his tricks and lies and talks about his heartless plan of using her simply to gain the throne saying, Was ever woman in this humor won?/Ill have her, but I will not keep her long (I.ii.235-236). His attitude here marks a shift in his perception of himself as he had mentioned that he was not meant for sportive tricks in his opening soliloquy. However, now he has had a confidence boost due to the success with Lady Anne and says Ill be at charges for a looking glass/And entertain a score or two of tailor (I.ii.262-263). Hence this soliloquy plays a role in his character development as we can see the change in his self-image and character. In his soliloquies, Richard also secretly associates himself with the devil as seen in Act 1 Scene 3 where he says And seem a saint, when most I play the devil. This also brings out Richards duplicity and ability to deceive as he manages to fool others into thinking that he is noble and sincere. This heightens the tragedy, as Richard conquers every character from Lady Anne to his own brother Clarence through his eloquence and proficiency in pretence. Other than soliloquies, asides are also used by several characters such as Richard himself as well as Queen Margaret to reveal their true thoughts and feelings. In Act 3 Scene 1, Richard uses asides to show us what he really thins of the young prince and how he deceives him with the use of double meanings in his words. For example, [Aside] Thus like the formal Vice, Iniquity, I moralize two meanings in one word. (III.i.79-83) Over here, his comparison of himself to Vice, is apt as he does play Vice, a comic role, when he is speaking with the audience. However, he always also has two meanings, which is what allows him to also be the machiavel. Also, Margaret uses asides in Act 1 Scene 3 to inform us of Richards treacheries and prevent us from being deceived like the other characters present. For example, she says (aside) Out, devil! The Challenges Of The German Reunification Politics Essay This paper attempts to help the reader understand the current situation in Germany today by providing an overview of the reunification of East and West Germany, the process that led to the so-called Reunification of Germany (or Deutsche Wiedervereinigung in German) during the end of 1989 and 1990. The paper begins with the situation of Germany after II World War, heading on to the Einigungsvertrag and the integration of the GDR into Western Germany. The International Relations section is intended to show the reader the different theories addressing this historical event. German reunification is a term commonly used to refer to the political process in which the German Democratic Republic (in German Deutsche Demokratische Republik) and Berlin, reunited into a single city, joined the Federal Republic of Germany. That meant for East Germany the end of political repression, censorship, and the introduction of a new capitalist economic system in which the means of production are privately owned and operated for a private profit; decisions regarding supply, demand, price, distribution, and investments are made by private actors in the free market; profit is distributed to owners who invest in businesses, and wages are paid to workers employed by businesses and companies, leaving behind a Soviet-based economic system controlled by leading members of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany. The start of this process is commonly referred by Germans as die Wende (The Turning Point). The end of the unification process is officially known as German unity (Deutsche Einheit), and is celebrated on 3 October. 2. History The II World had dramatic consequences for Germany; the death of over seven million German soldiers and civilians; large territorial losses (such as Pomerania, Silesia and East Prussia which were seized to Poland); the expulsion of about 15 million Germans from eastern areas of Germany and other countries (such as the Czech Republic, Romania and Poland); mass rape of German women; and the destruction of multiple major cities (like Frankfurt or Dresden). After the war, under a common occupation policy contrived mainly in conferences at Yalta and Potsdam in 1945, the Allied powers assumed shared sovereign authority over Germany. American, British, Soviet, and French forces occupied different areas, and national matters came before an Allied Control Council comprising the commanders of the four occupation armies. Berlin, lying deep in the Soviet zone in eastern Germany, was similarly divided and governed. Thus, the city of Berlin, surrounded by the Soviet Zone, was partitioned into four zones. The zones occupied by the Allies lay on the west side of the city, whilst those in the east were occupied by the Soviets. West Germany and West Berlin received massive injections from the American Marshall Plan, which attracted many workers from miserable economic conditions in the East. While this was meant to be a temporary move, the Cold War interceded and eventually the three western zones combined to form the Federal Republic of Germany (parliamentary republic member of the NATO with a social market economy) while the eastern zone formed the German Democratic Republic (estate politically and military controlled by the USSR member of the Warsaw Pact). Berlin, the capital was also divided. Eventually the two areas of Germany, East Germany and West Germany began to experience a deteriorating relationship and conflicts arose. The 12th of August, 1961 plans for the beginning of the Berlin Wall were instituted. Led by Erich Honecker, the plans were kept secret. A day latter, the Berlin Wall was built in order to stop East Germans from escaping to West Germany. With the pass of time it would became a symbol of the Cold War. Tensions between East and West Germany were somewhat reduced in the early 1970s by Chancellor Willy Brandts Ostpolitik, which included the de facto acceptance of Germanys territorial losses in World War II. During the 1980s, the post-War fabric gradually began to tear. The crisis in the Eastern bloc began in 1980, with the founding of an independent trade union, Solidarnosc, in Poland, followed by the imposition of martial law at the end of 1981. Three-and-a-half years later, in March 1985, Michael Gorbachev came to power in the Soviet Union. The insistence of Helmut Kohl (chancellor of the GFR) and the political changes undertaken by Gorbachevs government meant the beginning of friendlier relations between the two Germanys. The end of the two Germanys begun to change in summer 1989, when Hungary decided to dismantle the Iron Curtain and open its borders, causing an exodus of thousands of East Germans to West Germany via Hungary and Austria. This had devastating effects on the GDR, with mass demonstrations The East German authorities unexpectedly eased the border restrictions in November, allowing East German citizens to travel to the West. Originally intended as a pressure valve to retain East Germany as a state, the opening of the border actually led to an acceleration of the Wende Reform process in East Germany, which finally concluded with the Two Plus Four Treaty on 12th September 1990 under which the four occupying powers renounced their rights under the Instrument of Surrender, and Germany regained full sovereignty. This historical event finally permitted German reunification on 3rd October 1990, with the accession of the five re-established states of the former GDR. 3. International Relations Approach Which IRs theory describes better this historical event? The realist theory explains international relations as a self-help system in which states struggle to survive or improve their status by ballancing the military and economic power of the other actors. Many realists believe that bipolar orders are more stable and peaceful than multipolar systems in which the actors more frequently shift alliances. From this perspective the Cold War was the latest great power rivalry. Once the German dream to establish world hegemony was vanished after Word War II, the US-Soviet confrontation was inevitable, as they were the only two remaining economic and military powers. This had as a result the division of Germany in two distinct countries belonging to two different economic and political systems: the Federal German Republic (capitalist and member of NATO) and the German Democratic Republic (communist and part of the Warsaw Pact). According to Realist John Lewis Gaddis: after centuries of great power rivalries in Europe and two bloody world wars the Cold War finally established a long peace in Europe. The two superpower maintained stability and prevented war for more than forty years. The peace was a result of a heavily armed confrontation. Liberal theory argues that the Soviet threat to Europe was not military power but the brutality with which Stalin imposed communist regimes in Eastern Europe. Liberals also reject that the Cold War established a long peace in Europe. They believe that this peace was not true, as it was guarranted by the Iron Wall, which was a symbol of the depravation of people lacking of basic human rights. Liberalists state that peace should not be confused with lack of war. In reference to the German Reunification, some realists fear that the Unification of Germany might reestablish the German hegemony in Europe which might lead to a resurgence of German militarism. In contrast Liberals argue that the united Germany of the XXI century within the European Union will help to spread the liberal values of democracy and build a stronger Europe which will diminish the nationalist feelings of the European countries under a common prerogative of liberty, equality and fraternity. Personally I believe that the Liberal Theory is far more credible than the Realist one. Germanys reunification has been proved to be highly beneficial to Europe. Instead of becoming a military power in Europe, Unified Germany has helped to build a stronger and a more peaceful Europe. I believe that armor is, at base, an important, romantic medieval craft. Like all crafts, it takes technical skill and artistic merit to create a quality piece. Other re-enactment societies provide a rich market for fledgling armoires to earn their wings; without these markets, most craftsmen would never progress beyond the occasional hobbyist level. But there is a demand, both by collectors and experienced re-enactors, for arms, armor and accouterment that transcends sporting equipment and approaches something we might call "authentic". To create a piece of armor that strikes the balance between form and function and stay within medieval design elements is difficult. The vast majority of armor now made by 'reproduction' armoires is, unfortunately, sporting equipment. Some armoires do grow, however. In order to grow, they must learn the elements of style that define the periods in which they wish to work, perfecting their hammer and their eye simultaneously. The hammer is by far and away the easier thing to learn. But with perseverance and the willingness to look critically at personal projects, the armoire can refine his eye. The best way to do this is to make exact reproductions, graduating to the next level, the creation of a new piece within a period style. The article â€Å"Where Boys Were Kings, a Shift Toward Baby Girls† from The New York Times relays to readers the significant and profound changes in Korean society in relation to preference of female children over their male counterparts in Korean families.   In Korea, preference for boys is a centuries old custom and was rooted in part in an agrarian society that relied on sons to do the difficult work on family farms.   Men were also accorded special status because they were considered the carriers of the family’s all-important bloodline.   As Yang mentioned in Korea times, many people (mostly men) still think that â€Å"men are sky and women are land†. Under a highly conservative Confucianism based society, these changes in preference of baby girls especially highlights a shift in women’s status in Korea. The New York Times provides an example of Ms. Park’s situation.   Ms. Park is a 61-year-old newspaper executive who has three sons.   Only several decades ago, women who could reproduce many boys were considered the ideal wife.   However, Ms. Park now says that â€Å"within a generation, I have turned from the luckiest woman possible to a pitiful mother†.   As seen in Ms. Park’s interview in South Korea, once one of Asia’s most rigidly patriarchal societies, a centuries-old preference for baby boys is fast receding. Those who are faced with such an issue should reach out and make their voices heard. Bullying by any means, is undoubtedly wrong and painful for those who are victimized by it the effects cyber bullying can have on a child or teen can be utterly dangerous or in some extreme cases, deadly. Quite recently, in the news, was a story about Rutgers University student, Tyler Clementi, committing suicide allegedly due to two students streaming a video of him and another male being intimate. The two students who live streamed and recorded Clementi were charged with two counts each of invasion of privacy. It is reported that 9 out of 10 gay children are harassed or bullied and are four times more likely to commit suicide than heterosexual children. In my high school, a dear friend of mine felled prey to cyber bullying. A group of classmates discovered a video online of a girl, who looked somewhat similar to my friend, in a sexual act. These classmates then went around the entire school, showed everyone the video, and attempted to convince students that the girl recorded was in fact my friend. However, the girl in the video and my friend had significant differences about them that made it clear to me that these bullies were simply targeting her based on their personal vendetta against her. As a result, unfortunately, my friend started missing many school days and later I discovered she was cutting not only her arms but her legs as well. Any type of bullying can lead to emotional distress, lack of self confidence, and thoughts of suicide; these effects could last a lifetime. According to bullyingstatistics. org and statistics from the I-safe  foundation, over half of adolescents and teens have been bullied online, and about the same number have engaged in cyber bullying. Countless amount of teens are unaware of the fact that the many things they post online, whether it be good or bad, can eventually come back and haunt them in the future, especially when applying for a job or college. What can truly be done about cyber bullying? Sadly, most incidents of cyber bullying go unreported; possibly because a great number of people don’t find the issue that big of a deal. In my opinion, cyber bullying can be averted by educating students on the matter, not only in schools but at home as well. Schools should set up programs and seminars educating students about bullying and its effects. The College of Mount Saint Vincent has taken the initiative of creating the counseling center where students can walk in and discuss any issues that their having with counselors who are more than willing to listen and offer their support. Parents should monitor their children and their actions. They should be conscious of who their children are talking to and who their friends are. For many like my friend and Tyler Clementi, cyber bullying has already taken a dramatic toll on their lives, but if more students come forth and speak on their experiences on the issue it is without a question that this horrific trend can  end.
